Hypnosis History
Upon this day no one is sure when hypnosis history
first began. Most historians have seemed to agree that hypnosis
has been around for more than a thousand years.
Witch doctors and Spiritual Priests would often talk to the
supernatural by repeating a trance. Ancient Egyptians have used
hypnosis to relieve pain and even cure most diseases. The
Egyptian's would have healing temples or so called
"Temples of Sleep". The people who were sick were told
suggestions while still asleep.
The suggestions are then used to redirect their mind away
from the thought of their illnesses.
In 1765 hundreds of years later, Franz Anton Mesmeric
innovated animal magnetism. He declared that any man could
influence a magnetic fluid which could help the healing
process.
His idea became an influential school. There were
salons were he would implement magnets in people’s afflicted
body parts.
A few years later Le Marquis De Puysegur, thought the
magnetic power that Mesmeric was talking about is actually
present in one's mind and can actually be transmitted by
fingers to the person who is ill. He discovered that it
was possible to induce deep sleep where the person who
was sleeping could follow the command given. This is
referred to as the profound sleep.
At this time hypnosis was referred to as mesmerism. Dr. John
Elliotson cited that hypnosis can be associated to voluntary
and involuntary movement. In 1837 he claimed to be associated
to the mesmerism hypothesis.
Dr. Elliotson arrogated that there was a doctor in
India who has been amputating legs with the help of
hypnosis. A doctor named Dr. James Esdail. It was said
that he was able to perform over 300 operations and 19 of them
were amputations.
Dr. James Baird saw a French man named La Fontaine in his
mesmerism demonstration. After experiencing this, he put it
into practice and was able to put the patients into a deep
sleep that would make them accept any medical suggestion made
by the doctors.
Hypnosis History | World War
I
During World War I, hypnosis was used by the Germans to make
sure that their soldiers were able to recuperate from shell-
shock. This would help enable them to return immediately to
their base.
Hypnosis has started to gain interest among practitioners in
today's medical field. Its been said that Sigmund Freud is the
first proponent of hypnotherapy.
In the late 1890s, Freud had started studying hypnotherapy
until he changed into a new practice 1905. Freud had stated
that hypnosis suggestion can be made in an attempt to make
treatment quicker.
One of the few people who have influenced hypnotherapists is
Dr. Milton Erickson. After accomplishing a variety of books and
experience about hypnotherapy.
Dr. Erickson’s study's has become the innovation of NLP or
the neuro-linguistic programming which is mostly used in
trading and marketing.
As of today, hypnosis is used on adults. Hypnotherapy was
officially supported by the British Medical Association in
1955. Three years later, the American Medical Association did
the same. They endorsed hypnosis as a form of treatment.
Hypnosis History has sated back since the 1800s which is a long
time.
